Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you got into the world of vintage?
While living in LA after highschool, I got a job at Buffalo Exchange, which is typically a modern, designer buy-sell trade but this particular location in West Hollywood had a section for vintage clothing. I had always worn vintage, having shopped at thrifts growing up but was able to really start to understand the world of reselling vintage during my years as a buyer at that location.
What inspired you to start curating vintage pieces?
I always knew I wanted to work with clothing from a young age. I was obsessed ( and still am) with Barbra Streisand, and as a little kid watched Funny Girl probably 100 times. From the 1920s beaded gowns to the iconic leopard print jacket, I was totally taken with the costuming. I think that standard of style sparked my idea of curation and still plays a huge role in it today.
Do you have a favorite era or style that you focus on in your collection?
For the past 6 years I have had a small brick and mortar to sell out of, which had a very wide range of customers, making it hard to focus on one style or era. At the end of the day I just love clothes so I don’t discriminate and I don't totally buy into trends, but I do appreciate a well made garment, with a classic silhouette, something that will never be out of style. So i guess, the answer is no… hah
How do you source your vintage items, and what do you look for when selecting pieces?
Over the past 10+ years of reselling my sourcing has changed and morphed quite a bit. Which I think a lot of resellers can agree with. At times it was fleas and thrifts, turning into more estate sales. Then with the shop I needed lots of backstock so I wholesale a lot from our mutual favorites Peppered Goods! & luckily had a ton of walk-in sellers at the shop. I am now doing a little of all of it! I am focusing on more formal and bridal pieces so am doing a lot more house calls as of recently!
How do you see vintage fashion/home goods playing a role in sustainable shopping?
Vintage fashion and home goods play such a huge role in sustainable shopping by reducing waste and the need for new things! Vintage pieces were made better and last longer so giving them a second life means less waste over all! Shopping vintage also lets us make more ethical choices while finding unique, one-of-a-kind pieces no one else will have!
What can visitors expect to find in your collection at Moon+Arrow this month?
I am bringing a real mix of eras and styles but staying with the same overall vibe which feels romantic! Think spring romance! Silky silhouettes, some 40s lingerie, mixed in with classic 90s rayon dresses! I am also thinking I will sprinkle in a few pieces from my new bridal collection!
