Heyday Vintage for November!
Moon+Arrow is thrilled to host Heyday Vintage as our November curator, bringing an eclectic mix of vintage finds to our store! Heyday Vintage, founded in June 2023 by a duo with a passion for sustainable fashion, is a project born out of founder Lauren's love for vintage and her partner Frank’s keen eye for unique pieces. With a shared love for treasure-hunting, they work together to find vintage items that celebrate iconic styles from the past and are carefully curated to appeal to the present.
How did you start Heyday Vintage?
I started Heyday Vintage in June of 2023 with my partner Frank who helped me rediscover my passion for vintage. We started Heyday because we enjoy going sourcing together and have fun showing each other what we find. We each bring something different to the table with our unique senses of style, which complement each other and give the brand a well-rounded perspective that appeals to a wide range of customers.
As the name suggests, we aspire to bring new life to items that were popular in their heyday so that they are wearable for years to come. Working in the fashion industry, I saw how much waste there was and wanted to focus on making shopping sustainably easy, approachable and inclusive. We do the “dirty work” for our customers by curating unique vintage pieces and putting in the time to launder and repair them so they’re ready to wear. It’s incredibly gratifying to see the transformation of some vintage items from when we first source them to them looking brand new and that makes it all worthwhile.
Can you give us some background on yourself? Besides slinging vintage, what else do you enjoy?
I’m originally from a small town in central New Jersey and have always had a love for fashion. Growing up, I would spend hours locked in my room studying the editorial photos in my grandmother’s high fashion magazines and originally thought I wanted to be a fashion editor. Fast forward to 2009 when I moved to Philly to pursue a degree in Entertainment and Arts Management at Drexel University. For my senior project at Drexel I launched a Style section for the school’s student newspaper, The Triangle, which was inspired by the New York Times Style section. As the Style editor, I managed a team of students to feature local boutiques, report on fashion trends and document student’s street style on campus. Around this time I also worked at New York Fashion Week as a PA and would take street style photos in my free time because I loved seeing the unique ways people dressed on the streets of New York City. Following graduation, I went to Conde Nast College of Fashion and Design in London, which was a crash course in all aspects of the fashion industry. There I studied under experts in the fashion industry and received a Vogue Fashion Certificate. After returning to Philly, I was inspired to start my first vintage clothing brand, Grannie Squares Vintage, after studying about fashion history and collecting vintage pieces that caught my eye that weren’t my size or style, but knew others would love too. Since then, I have worked in fashion retail and e-commerce for several brands, both contemporary and vintage, before starting Heyday Vintage. In my free time I like to hang out with my partner Frank and our dog Bruce, see live music, and enjoy all of the amazing food and culture that Philly has to offer.
What is your inspiration when selecting vintage?
I love the thrill of the hunt when going sourcing because you never know what you’ll find. Many vintage pieces are handmade and it’s so fun to discover these one-of-a-kind creations. I am usually drawn to a piece by either the textile, fabric, or print. A lot of what I gravitate towards is from the 60s and 70s because I love the fun colors, prints and silhouettes, whereas Frank is drawn to 80s, 90s and early 2000s menswear. Together we carry a wide variety of clothing and accessories from the 1920s through the early 2000s. We also like to focus on curating pieces that are super wearable like classic denim, t-shirts, jackets, leather goods and other timeless basics that can be worn with anything. One of my favorite vintage style icons is Jane Birkin because I love how she elevated basics like jeans and a white top with her styling and accessorizing.
Where else can people find your vintage selections this fall? Are there any exciting plans?
We have several pop-ups and flea markets that we will be vending at in the Philly-area this fall and this winter. You can follow us on Instagram to see our updated schedule. We also hope to launch an online store soon so stay tuned for that!
What do you listen to while sourcing? Any playlists you’re enjoying right now?
I’m usually listening to whatever is playing in the stores I go to, which is typically classic rock or oldies radio stations, which I love because that’s what I was raised on and definitely brings the vintage vibes. In contrast, when my partner and I drive around to go sourcing we’re usually listening to a mix of rap and hip hop to hype ourselves up and get our energy up to shop.
