This Month's Artist Spotlight: Samantha Pleet

It's with great delight that we highlight designer Samantha Pleet this month. This Philadelphia-born, Brooklyn-resident has been enchanting us with her remarkable, and very flattering, clothing for years, and will also be joining us for our Winter Solstice Party later this month.

Samantha is fun, fierce and full of imagination, which is evident in her collections. She is inspired by everyone from Joan of Arc to David Lynch to Star Trek, unicorns and the fantastical, Dario Argento, and Queen Elizabeth I. Her designs make us feel light, full of heart-happiness and whimsy, while also being grounding in their elegance and sturdiness.

When you are in a Samantha Pleet design you could be channeling many a historic hero mixed with one mighty version of yourself. One of the first pieces we fell in love with was her tabernacle dress, which has now become a classic for her line. A simple take on an a-line cut dress with a literal set of twists, baring just the right amount of skin. Her clothes are made well with meticulous attention to detail, care and a thoughtfulness into who is making them and where the materials are coming from. As a woman who owns and runs her own business, she champions other women-run businesses in various ways.

Samantha makes the patterns and designs each collection out of her solar-powered townhouse in Brooklyn.  The garments are produced at a women-owned factory in NYC as well as fair trade factories in India and China. Her shoes are produced at a small fair trade women-owned factory in China and the leathers were sustainably sourced in Italy.

Inspired after the birth of her daughter, Valentine, she came out with the colorful and playful Dear Valentine and it is just as darling as you can imagine.

Come meet Samantha at our Moon + Arrow Winter Solstice Party. She will be setting up a Sample Sale pop-up, at our shop, Friday, December 21st from 6pm-9pm!
