Visiting what?!

Connecting with the artistic community in our city has always been a crucial part of Moon + Arrow’s philosophy. It has brought us so much joy to host workshops and pop-ups, building relationships with our customers and the vendors we work with. If you're ever wondering what we mean when we talk about our visiting artist or visiting vintage learn more about how we started this monthly pop up project.

In January 2020 we began hosting a visiting local artist for a weekend pop-up during our Fourth Friday celebration. Fourth Friday is a monthly celebration where all the businesses on 4th street come together to uplift one another. Sometimes we have sidewalk pop-ups or sales or special events. It was so rewarding to bring people together over handcrafted goods made by our local friends. The stress of Covid-19 showed us just how valuable it was to gather together in this way. After continuing our weekend visiting artists through the summer, we found such success in these events that we decided in September of 2020 to extend our visiting artist pop-ups to month-long collaborations. We’ve had so much fun creating a space for our clientele to discover local handmade clothing, ceramics, jewelry, and apothecary while uplifting fellow small businesses.

Moon + Arrow’s beginnings are rooted in vintage clothing. Proprietor Chelsea Pearce has a knack for finding one-of-a-kind vintage pieces from all over the world and bringing them to our space. As the shop grew, so did Chelsea’s family, and sourcing vintage became harder to do consistently. So, in September of 2021, we introduced another monthly pop up to contribute to our constantly shifting and growing offerings, Visiting Vintage.

Every month we find a new vintage seller to bring into Moon+Arrow and they get to grow their customer base while we are afforded the opportunity to show off Philadelphia's incredible community of small businesses. Our work with local vintage sellers has been so gratifying. Through inviting a member of our community to curate a collection all month long, we’ve opened our doors to a variety of tastes, sources, and eras of fashion. We are constantly impressed by the vintage sellers we meet and work with, reminiscing about Moon + Arrow’s beginnings as a pop-up shop.

Recently we’ve been able to safely reconnect with our community again through events and workshops. The relationships we’ve built on 4th Street with like-minded makers and small business owners are so important to our identity as a shop, and we’re thrilled to introduce them to our dedicated customers. Four times a year we celebrate the changing of the seasons with pop-ups from our visiting artists, vintager sellers, photographers, and tarot card readers. Connecting Moon + Arrow patrons with the artists we love is what sustains us as a brand, growing our community even more.
